Why Shoelaces Make a Big Difference

What makes shoelaces so important to a gentleman’s fashion? Learn everything you need to know, plus an exciting announcement, in this blog.

When it comes to getting dressed, it’s safe to say that shoelaces aren’t exactly the priority. Instead, we look at our shoes, hair and outfit choice.

However, here at Percy Stride, we believe that it’s something all dapper gents should consider.

Here’s why.

They’re a work of art

On the whole, shoelaces are generally regarded as being quite boring.

But by choosing a colourful pair, it can say a lot about who you are and your style.

They add another layer

In the winter, you’ll often be advised by men’s fashion bloggers to add layers to your look. This usually includes having a shirt, a jumper and a coat all in similar shades of green, maroon, brown and beige.

Well, the same principle applies to your shoes.

Not only is finding the right shoes very important, but by adding a splash of colour, you can add a completely new dimension to your look. After all, it’s the small things that make a big difference.

They bring an outfit together

Just like a pocket square can complement a shirt and blazer combo, and a pair of braces helps to bring cohesion between your trousers and top, laces can have the same impact too.

If you’re trying out a new colour combination with your outfit, adding a simple element like coloured laces to match another garment will really give off the impression that you’ve thought about how you look. This is particularly important when you’re on a first date or an interview.

They make life easier

How frustrating is it when your laces are too long and you have to tuck them in to avoid tripping over them? Or even worse, they aren’t long enough and you have to do some Bear Grylls-esc magic to tie a tiny knot?

As a rule of thumb, your laces should ideally leave you with about 10 inches (250mm) to tie them. If they are slightly longer than this, you can usually disguise them by tying a double knot.

If you’re interested (or have too much time on your hands) in learning about the best ways to tie your shoelaces, check out Ian Fieggen’s website. It showcases 18 different ways to do it!

What are you waiting for?

We’ve recently teamed up with The Original Laces Company, to offer exclusive discounts on their range of quality shoelaces.

They apply metal aglets by using a ‘hand punch’ machine and add a little bit of water and heat resistant glue to keep the quality cord or ribbon firmly attached to it.

And the best part of all is that all of The Original Laces Company’s shoelaces are manufactured in Britain…well, a garden shed to be precise!

With Christmas coming, they make a perfect stocking filler. Click here to find your perfect colour today.
